Sanford Chief of Police Bill Lee Temporarily Resigns (videos)

The Chief of Police in the Trayvon Martin murder case, Bill Lee, temporarily resigned his position on March 22, 2012 after receiving a vote of no confidence from community leaders and citizens nationwide.

Ben Jealous of the NAACP called for Bill Lee's resignation. Lee held a press conference and stated, "My involvement in this matter is overshadowing the process," Lee said. "My role has become a distraction... It is my hope the investigation process will move swiftly and appropriately."

He did not address questions, nor was it stated how long he will be removed from the role. Sanford, Florida is currently looking for an interim police chief.
