Press Release: New Sanford Chief of Police Named

The following is a press release issued from the Sanford Police Department following the temporary resignation of Cheif Lee from the Trayvon Martin case.




Sanford, Fla --- Friday, March 23 -- Sanford City Manager Norton Bonaparte, Jr. officially introduced Captain Darren Scott and Captain Robert O’Connor who will be leading the Sanford Police Department during Chief Lee’s absence.

Captain Scott is a 22-year veteran of the Sanford Police Department. He has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Troy University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He has served in a variety of positions in the Police Department to include Patrol, Investigations, Special Operations and the Office of Professional Standards Captain O’Connor has extensive experience in Investigations, Intelligence Led Policing, Multi Organizational Mutual Aid Management, Terrorism/Domestic Security and Critical Infrastructure Protection.

He has a Bachelors Degree in Criminology from Florida State University and a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida.

Mr. Bonaparte spoke during the press conference today, “I have complete confidence in Capt. Scott and Capt. O’Connor and their ability to lead this department as we move forward.”

The Sanford Police Department proudly serves the 53,570 residents of Sanford, Florida.
